We finished the week at Marlborough Primary with our Egypt Rocks Show! The pupils (all 90 of them!) used their own puppets to act out mini sketches from their own play scripts. We had jokes from the Mummies, facts from The Pharoahs and dances from The Gods. All ending with our unique Egypt Song! The children all left with their own puppet and a brilliant memory of Egyptian Week at school!

What an AMAZING week!!! 5 days of Egypt Mania with our 'Egypt Rocks' Workshop.

We have been on an Ancient Egyptian EXTRAVAGANZA with year 4's at Marlborough Primary, Isleworth, London!

90 yr 4 pupils have designed and created their own Mummie, Pharoah or God puppets to perform in an end of week show that is due to blow parents away! We used recycled materials to constuct our puppets and card, fabric and sequins to add detail. 3 Create facilitators led the workshops throughout this week which included pastel drawing, puppet making, drama sessions to teach movement of puppets, as well as creative writing and playscript!

Tomorrow will be the big show, so we'll let you all know how it went and post some great pictures... so watch this space! 

What a week to clearly show the postive effects of creativity within the classroom!

We were lucky enough to work with 90 Reception children from Fairholme Primary School, London with who we are creative partners. The workshop was a combination of puppet and costume making, singing and poetry. 

Each day we worked with a class of 30 children introducing them to our Enchanted Garden story. We then drew pictures in pastels of the garden and all the little creatures we might find there. Children then went on to make colourful puppets and headdresses. The week ended with a finale performance of 'The Frog Song' and our special Enchanted Garden poem which children learnt throughout the week. The show was performed to nursery childrena and all parents. It was a briliant week and we'll be back soon!

We were so happy to return to Bidwell Brook school in Dartington and work with 4 classes to make puppets and scenery for our Enchanted Garden Workshop. As you can see, we made giant flowers and created a magical space where the children could perform their piece of drama. We had butterfly and bee puppets, as well as some frog costumes. Children loved the twinkly room with the beautiful music playing! See you again soon guys!

We visited St James Primary for the second time to work with yr 5-6 on the Tudors. They booked our Tudor Workshop - Tudor Tales 'Henry and his Six Wives'. What a brilliant 3 days we had! The kids loved making the puppets. We even learnt what parts of the Tudor costumes were when we were designing the outfits for our puppets. The triangular shaped dress is called a Farthingale! Pupils learnt funny 'true' facts about Henry and each wife then performed an assembly for the rest of the school. It was a fantastic way to end the 3 days! Look forward to our next visit.

Pupils at Decoy Primary in Devon spent 2 days learning about Gods, Pharoahs and Mummies! Create went in to make puppets with the pupils using recycled materials. They looked great! Then the children learnt scripts and songs for a mini show. The children will be keeping their puppets at school as they are going to perform a finale show for parents to come and see at the end of term! What a great way to end the term!

Well finally the mural was completed and is now hopefully safe up on the wall in its new home. The mural was a two day workshop with all 70 pupils working on the pictures that was based on habitats of animals around the world. We looked at desert, rainforest, polar, woodland and underwater. The kids used paint, collage, pastels and marker pens to work on large boards to create each panel. In total there were 5 panels. The children chose a school poem to run along the bottom of the panels that talked about being thankful for all animals. All in all, a lovely project.

For all you ghoolish kids that joined us at parkfield for our Zombie Workshop we'd like to wish you all a great Halloween! We had a great day facepainting and designing our own Zombie outfit to scare the pants off each other! Then did sketches to the soundtrack of Thriller... all made for a very spooky drama workshop... especially with all the falling off limbs!

We visited Warbstow primary last week and ran a 5 day workshop based on 'The Story of The Rainbow'! It was brilliant. The kids spent all week designing, creating and making puppets and costumes as well as learning a script and acting. On Friday we held a performance in the school hall which all family and freinds came to. It was a very full on week, and the kids got so much out of it! Creativity, Literacy, acting, art, PE, you name it they did it! Hope to back again in the new year!

Just finished a great workshop on The Victorians at Eastover Primary in Bridgewater with Yr6. 

The Yr6 had a day of art and drama where they looked at Florence Nightingale and learnt about her part in the Crimean War. The classes worked with our drama specialist to role play scenes from Florences life as well as use extracts from her diary as collage paper to create giant portraits. The day was a great day and we look forward to working with the school soon!

WOW!!! What a week! This week we've been at Stowford Primary again for a week long workshop working with Foundation to Yr6! 

Their school hall needed a new lease of life so we came up with a plan to have a mural that showed images from curriculum topics that all the year groups covered. The task was immense! We started with Foundation who did Ourselves & Our Family. Yr2 did Victorian Holidays, Yr3 did The Normans and Egypt, Yr4 did India and The Romans, Yr5 did Tudors and Great Wall of China and finally Yr6 covered Space and WW2!

The art work was done on boards that will have a poem running along the bottom. It was a brilliant week and we produced some really incredible artwork! Well done kids!!

Create have expanded our drama groups into the amazing new space in Paignton called Parkfield Youth Hub. We are so proud to be the resident drama group and are now running workshops every Monday and Tuesday night during term time. This new venue is world class standard and has a drama studio space to rival any in the country! 

Workshops are running for kids aged 7-17yrs and will aim to put on a show twice a year. Even if you've NEVER been part of a drama group before, acted or been on the stage, but have always wanted to give it a go, then these groups could be for you! They are fun, friendly and energetic.. Art & Drama for Key Stage 1 - 2

'The Victorians'

Pupils will meet Florence Nightingale and learn about the Crimean War and what it would have been like to be Florence or a wounded soldier at that time. In the art they will create giant collages using extracts from Florence's diary to form giant portraits.

Rehearsals for the summer show of Charlie and The Chocolate Factory went smoothly as hoped! With the scenery in place and costumes nearly ready we just needed to have a couple more run throughs with all the children at the Brixham theatre. The show was to run for 2 nights and children were getting more excited by the hour. With all the colourful costumes to get into and props to get ready everyone was extremely busy preparing themselves.

Create artists worked with 2 groups of pupils from Westlands College and Paignton Community College to produce some amazing art work that would become part of 3 huge banners for the brand new Paignton library. 

Pupils were all part of the very successful 'Step Up Units - Foundation Learning Programme' that works to inspire young pupils who would normally struggle with many national curriculum subjects.

During the 7 weeks that pupils attended the art workshops, they learnt new art techniques and also how to plan and design as well as complete a finished piece of art work based on themes from the library.

A unveiling of the banners will take place in Sept 2011 at the new library and we hope they will remain there for years to come. All the pupils should be very proud!

The classic tale of The Rainbow Fish was the inspiration for this 1 day workshop for Stoke Gabriel Primary, South Devon.

Children used cardboard sheets to design and construct their own shape fish models. They looked at the finns and tails and how the shape can vary, then cut out and attached their own designs to the base. Each part of the fish moved by split pins and also sticks. We finished our fishes with paint, collage and sparkly spray paints.

Stowford Primary requested a 5 day workshop extravaganza that combined costume making, prop making, painting and maskmaking. A team of Create staff planted themselves in the school for a week and worked with every class and all the year groups to create a whole range of artwork all based on the theme 'Carnival'. We made morris men costumes based on the famous Dartmoor Border men Morris dancers. We produced Afican animal masks with yr 1 and 6. We made princess tiaras and kings crowns with yr 3 and many more exciting things!

The finale day was on the Friday where we were so lucky it didn't rain! Even with big black rain clouds looming!

The children all paraded their costumes around the school and had great fun eating from the bar-b-q and buying cakes at the various stalls. We look forward to returning in the new year to work with some of the pupils again.

For our 2nd visit back to Bidwell Brook, we worked with the 17yrs +. We spent two days looking at the characters in the brilliant series Harry Potter then recreated our own puppets. Firstly all the pupils had to choose a character then using milk bottle containers we cut them up and made a base. From here we added tissue and slowly built up the correct colour by using tissue. 

Once the face was tissued we could add detail like eyes, hair facial features and even earrings! We finally attatched our sticks and clothes. Can you guess what characters the puppets are from the photos?

We finally used our puppets in a performance. It was great fun and all the young people took home their special puppet!

We were really privilaged to work with the fantastic young people that attend Bidwell Brook school in Dartington, South Devon. We visited the school on 3 occasions to deliver 2 day workshops. Each workshop had a different theme and outcome as we were working with children of various abilities and ages. 

Our first project 'City Life' was based on the children creating a 3D city using card board boxes and paints and collage. We looked at what you may find in the city, cars, taxi's, skyscapers then had a great day making these. We also made a back drop that showed the night and the day. 

We then looked at sounds you would hear over 24hrs in a city. Birds waking up, beeping of traffic... right up to rush hour... then the final winding down of the city. The children put all this together and we peformed a piece that was shown in assembly. It was fantastic. Lots of fun, very interactive and made all the children laugh out loud!!

A brilliant two days!!
